Recommended prerequisites

The course builds on the knowledge obtained in Makroøkonomisk analyse on the 6th semester. Students who have not followed makroøkonomisk analyse but who are otherwise willing to put in some extra effort will also be able to follow the course.

Aim and purpose

The purpose of Advanced Macroeconomics is to introduce students to topics related to the macroeconomic outlook of developed economies like Denmark with focus on both growth and fluctuations. The first main aim of the course is that students acquire knowledge about key facts of macroeconomics in developed economies and the existing theories seeking to explain these facts. The second main aim of the course is that the students acquire skills in applied macroeconomic research. The third main aim is that the students can apply these skills in various macroeconomic contexts. 

Content

The course focuses on understanding the causes of economic growth and fluctuations. Models of growth and fluctuations are introduced and analyzed. Students will learn the necessary mathematical methods required to solve these models, and they will learn how the models can be applied to understand on current macroeconomic policy debates.

  • Apply simple models used in macroeconomics to understand and interpret macroeconomic facts
  • Set up and solve simple models that are used in macroeconomics to analyze economic growth and fluctuations
  • Identify and explain the problems and limitations involved in operationalizing and quantifying different key macroeconomic ideas and concepts

  • Use macroeconomic models to analyze macroeconomic issues
  • Use the economic approach to understand and interpret macroeconomic research
