Mandatory prerequisites

Basic knowledge within mechanical engineering and good English language skills are necessary.

Learning objectives - Knowledge

Knowledge

  • Basic theory behind mechanical computer modelling 
  • Basic theory regarding simulation of parts movement 
  • Knowing the abilities of high software simulation tools – regarding modelling and simulation 
  • Knowledge about how simulation tools can optimize the R & D process

Skills

  • Ability to transform a design or a specification into a simulation model 
  • Ability to perform a simulation of dynamic and static systems/problems 
  • Ability generate simulation data for further analysis 
  • Ability to use software platforms for optimizing engineering tasks

Competences 

  • Ability to identify limitations of a model, to define boundary conditions for the simulation, to be able to simplify the simulation model and still obtain useful results 
  • Ability to assess a simulation outcome and to evaluate if the method and software are suitable for a given problem

Content

  • Introduction basic theory behind computer modelling and simulation 
  • Introduction to common software based simulation tools for both dynamic and static simulations 
  • Design of dynamic assemblies and mechanisms 
  • Motion and dynamical analysis of mechanisms

The course is a combination of lectures and hands-on case-based exercises.

During the semester the students creates a portfolio of assignments.
